Review of education development in Ghana

The current basic education structure and curriculum in Ghana has its roots in the country’s colonial past. The authors synthesize analysis of evidence on access to basic education in Ghana and use this as a basis for outlining areas that need further research.

The authors assess the impact of past and present policies on basic education on expanding access and offer a number of recommendations for further research on access as well as issues for policy reformulation. The report:

  • Investigates the evolution of access to basic education in Ghana;
  • Analyzes basic education policies and practices to assess their effect on access to basic education;
  • Examines conditions and factors that underpin access as a process and an outcome;
