Status report on learning levels in Sheikhupura district, Pakistan

This 2008 ASER report covers Pakistan’s Sheikhupura district. The survey includes information on 1199 children and 1093 mothers in the region.

The report states that there are 2,220 public schools in the district. Overall literacy rates of Sheikhupura district was 43.8 percent. Study findings include:

  • Overall enrollment in the 3 -16 years age group is 93 percent;
  • Nearly 50 percent of out of school children are females;
  • Overall, 85 percent of teachers and 76 percent of students were present on the day of the school visit;
  • Overall, pupil teacher ratio was 47;
  • Of the 30 schools visited, 73 percent had water facilities and 83 percent had toilet facilities.
