NIKE Foundation has provided a grant to the IDEX Fellowship in Social Enterprise to pilot a summer school camp for their girl effect program. Camp VOICE (Vital Opportunities in Creative Expression) is conceived by 3 IDEX Fellows, ’11- Averil Spencer, Allie Gross, Ilana Shushansky. Camp VOICE is an English immersion summer camp that utilizes creative activities and community involvement to help empower girls in low-income communities. We are working with girls going into 7th through 10th grade as they are at an age where they can be directly affected by finding their voice and being able to stand up for their own futures. They are also the right age to discuss body issues, as they are all becoming young women.
