Janta Foundation has launched a new peer-to-peer microlending site targeted at educating young people. Janta Foundation argues the program will give individuals the opportunity to support children and young adults in India and Nicaragua.

Visitors to Janta’s web site can invest increments of USD25 in a student, track their educational progress and then get paid back at the end of the loan term (usually six to 12 months), helping the student either start or continue their education. Often, the parents are the recipients of the money, which is eventually paid back either by the students themselves or their families when they are in a position to do so.
