Investors in school facilities look set to reap big from a tax shift that will see them claim higher refunds on construction costs. The move is meant to tackle the wastage that characterizes transition from one level of education to another. Previously, investors were able to claim capital deduction only on industrial buildings, hotels, plant and machinery, and mining.
Educationists feel the shift can spur building of educational facilities as well as boost private sector investment in the sector at a time when educationists are grappling with the high cost of construction in a harsh business environment.
