Nigeria: Census to Include Private Schools

The Nigerian National 2010/11 Annual Schools Census, which commences in Lagos Monday, November 22, is expected to capture all private schools in Lagos State, unlike previous editions that covered only government schools. The exercise is being conducted by the Lagos State Government with the support of UKaid through the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN).

ESPIN's Communications and Knowledge Management Coordinator Bankole Ebisemiju said in a release that the census is meant to obtain good information for planning and managing education. Emphasis will be on private schools because they play a very important role in the provision of education and their participation in the census is essential for further development of the sector in the state.
