Nigeria: FCTA Shuts Down 337 Private Schools
Oct 28, 2010
The FCT Education Secretary, Alhaji Hussaini Halilu Pai has said that the secretariat has so far served notices of closure to 337 private schools across the FCT for failure to meet the minimum requirements. Pai made this disclosure during a Ministerial Town Hall meeting with proprietors of private schools and public presentation of three education policy guidelines at the Education Resource Center, Wuse, Abuja.
He threatened that any proprietor who commences any form of academic activities without first obtaining necessary permission from the education secretariat will face the full wrath of the law. The secretary advised that all schools currently placed on probation as published by the FCT Department of Policy and Implementation should endeavor to get accredited or risk closure while owners will be prosecuted.
