Nigeria: Proliferation of Private Schools Detrimental to Public Education System

Akure — Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has said the proliferation of private schools in the country could be detrimental to the nation's public education system if urgent steps are not taken by the government.

The former Head of State said this at the convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where he was conferred with an honorary Doctoral degree in Management and Environmental Technology. He lamented over the inconsistency of educational policies of the government, saying the development was affecting the sector.
