The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Ogun State has protested an alleged plan by the government to collect N100 per pupil in primary six from the association as a prerequisite for placement in public secondary schools. NAPPS said the alleged levy amounts to "asking minors to pay education tax."
NAPPS’s President Alhaja Basirat Alimi said: "Parents pay tax. Schools equally pay money to the government. Introducing N100 placement fees is asking minors to pay tax. It is unheard of." The association threatened to boycott the Junior School Certificate Examination (JSCE) scheduled for today, if the Ministry of Education does not postpone it.
