Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) of Pakistan is pleading before Senate’s Standing Committee on Education to get powers to keep a check on fees charged by the private schools. PEIRA (Islamabad) Chairman Atif Mahmood Kayani said that the authority was established in 2006, but the then cabinet declined to give it the powers to review school fees.
PEIRA is responsible for registration, regulation and promotion of the privately-managed educational institutions. Kayani said his PEIRA will launch a website next month on which list of educational institutions registered with the authority will be posted to facilitate parents’ decision on selection of schools.
